Data Deletion Rights & Process

Your Right to Delete

You have the right to request deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time. This right is protected under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR Art. 17), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and Apple App Store / Google Play policies.

How to Request Deletion

In-App (Recommended)

Open Rikai Sensei
Go to Profile > Account Management
Tap “Delete Account”
Select a reason (helps us improve)
Follow the confirmation steps
Type DELETE to confirm

Your account will be deactivated immediately.

By Email

If you cannot access the app, email rikaisenseiapp@gmail.com with the subject line “Account Deletion Request” from the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 5 business days.

What Happens After You Request Deletion

30-Day Grace Period

When you request account deletion:

Your account is immediately deactivated and you are signed out
A 30-day grace period begins
During this period, you can recover your account by simply logging back in — all your data will be exactly as you left it
After 30 days, all personal data is permanently and irreversibly deleted

What Gets Deleted

The following data is permanently removed after the grace period:

Profile information — display name, email, learning track preferences, persona settings
Learning progress — lesson completion, module progress, curriculum advancement
SRS review data — spaced repetition cards, review history, stability/difficulty ratings
Activity records — quiz attempts, TBLT scenario responses, activity results and analytics
Achievements — badges, streaks, milestones, Shu-Ha-Ri progression
User content — kanji mnemonics, SRS notes, story likes and favorites
Engagement data — engagement signals, A/B test assignments, track transition history
App preferences — notification settings, UI preferences
AI usage records — AI conversation quota tracking

What We Retain (and Why)

Retained transaction records are fully anonymized — your email, name, and all personal identifiers are stripped. Only the transaction ID, amount, date, and a cryptographic hash (not your actual account ID) are kept.

Your Subscription

Deleting your account does NOT automatically cancel your subscription.

If you have an active subscription, you must cancel it separately:

Apple App Store: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Rikai Sensei > Cancel
Google Play: Google Play > Menu > Subscriptions > Rikai Sensei > Cancel

We recommend cancelling your subscription before or immediately after requesting account deletion. Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription either.

Account Recovery

If you change your mind during the 30-day grace period:

Open Rikai Sensei
Sign in again with the same provider (Google, Apple, Discord, or Facebook) you used before
Your account is automatically restored with all data intact

No special steps are needed. Recovery is instant and automatic.

After the 30-day period, your data cannot be recovered.
